Jan 22, 2009
MMNA Education Foundation provides educational grants to qualified Maheshwari
students pursuing their higher studies.
For Spring 2009, the Foundation provided grants to many students.
Swapnil Somani, a graduate student at Texas A&M University, is one such
recipient. Swapnil said, "As one of this year's recipients, I am grateful
for the opportunities this award will provide me. I rely on financial aid,
grants and student loans to help finance my education. Receiving this
scholarship will help reduce my financial burdens and provide assistance
for me as I continue pursuing my education."
Other recipients include Ronak Moondra (MS student at IIT Chicago) and
Kailash Rathi (graduate student at Stevens Institute of Technology). Ronak said,
"I am greatly obliged to receive the scholarship from
Maheshwari Mahasabha of North America. This amount will help me fund my
tuition fee to great extent. I will meet all the terms and guidelines
which are required to be fulfilled in order to get approval for further grant."
The Foundation receives requests from many deserving students each year. Scholarship
decision is based on the needs of the students and other qualifying
criteria.
Vasant Rathi, Chairman for the committee, said, "We are happy to provide
these grants. We want our community youth to benefit from their higher
education."
Almost all students who receive the
scholarship loans pay them off
after graduating and getting a job. Anuj Ladda, who received the MMNA
scholarship in 2007, started working and paid off the loan in Jan 2009.
Kishor Lohiya, MMNA National President, said,
"We are THANKFUL to Anuj Ladda for his sincerity in prompt
utilizing the funds
and repaying back in full."
